They say to stay indoors, but most people especially in our line of work do not have a choice.
Today while dropping water the smoke was so thick that my eyes started to burn and water while hanging my head out the door into the dip sight. Soon as I started flying the wind cleared them. Never flown in such thick smoke before. It's quite the experience. Very rewarding and challenging and in an odd way, fun!
This is what the local Ukiah paper says.........(this is the town we are hoteling in.)

Seems like you have enough fireworks already......
I'll have a cold Stella on your behalf.
Happy 4th!!
Read those articles on air quality.
Scary stuff to be exposed to.
Film crews for some reason are always allowed to shoot in areas that have been deemed unsafe for the general public ie. condemned buildings, bomb ranges, toxic sites, Downey......
I bought a heavy duty respirator and carry it in my pack.
Sounds like a MBU-5/P 02 mask wouldn't be a bad idea in your situation. You could hook it up to a filter instead of a 02 bottle.
MCU-P2? Find a way to make it keep from sliding off when you look down and there's sweat between it and your skin.
Then, again, I suppose smoke is more forgiving than SARIN. But remember just because the smell is gone doesn't mean the CO and CO2 are gone.
