Blog issues explained......
Hey everyone, I've been really busy and haven't had a chance to comment on anyone's comments right now, but trust me, I've read them and appreciate everything everyone has said. I wouldn't be doing this blog if it weren't for you guys and your interest.
Having said that, I think the problems you guys are encountering with posting comments on this website now are because I now approve everyone's comment before they get posted. It seems that more people are reading my blog without knowing anything about me or who I am. Apparently some of those people are possibly the one's making negative comments. So from this point I would rather keep the negative vibe off my site and not have to explain myself to anyone in the future that does not understand me and misinterprets what I write about my adventures only to make me out to be a bad person. Once again, no one is perfect. Those comments from those few people who have been turned onto my blog are just as imperfect as everyone else in this world.
I apologize for any inconvenience. I didn't want to have to approve comments because the whole fun of my blog is the interaction between some of you with each other when you post a comment. Just as some of you have asked me to not change the way I write....please be patient as I try to check the site every day to publish everyone's comments. Thanks again so much!!!!
p.s. Wow, great stories to tell next time about the snow we flew up to just this past Friday after the rain. As I told Stu, that was the best 5 and 6 show ever! lol.

I'd like to be the first to say that the "negative comments" that you may have been receiving are totally unwarranted!
I for one find your blog both entertaining and informative. One does not often get to see things from the perspective of a pilot (both literally and figuratively.)
The work you do fighting wildfires and reporting on local events should be applauded!
Besides, I love the photos :)
Desiree,
Looking forward to your updates on the snow last week.
Take care and stay safe.
Desiree
Great post today. Loved the Los Angeles mag article, and I know that I am a bit behind! I really admire your strength of direction in life. I also have deep passion for my life's profession, being an ICU nurse. No need to really post this, just wanted to let you know there are girls out there supporting you!

Hi Desiree,
My son, Brian, just got his helicopter pilots license, he's 18.
He's really talented and eats and sleeps helicopters. He's working on his Commercial and Instrument rating now in the Robinson R22 and later the R44. He's looking into getting his own headset and I was hoping you could tell me the best kind to get. Some people are saying Bose and others Dave Clark. Do you have a preference of a good quality headset that will last a long time?
He trains at California Aviation at the Riverside Airport.
Thank you for your advice...
Sincerely, Alan

Desiree,
Last night on the 11 p.m. news, they showed a toy parachute floating through the air, and said that News Chopper 4 had photographed it afloat for over four minutes. (Pretty impressive to those of us who still have a lot of kid in us!) I wondered if you and Stu taped that or Chip Paige? The video was on the NBC4.TV website last, but I couldn't get it to work on my computer. Today, it isn't on their site.
As I was typing the above paragraph, I was thinking just how cool it is to be able to ask you questions on all kinds of things and how gracious you have always been about answering. Also, as Paul expressed so well, we get to share in your adventures and experience things we could never experience without you. Anyway, those of us who have been on this blog for any length of time know what a neat and sweet person you actually are!! It's sad and completely unwarranted that anyone would be unkind to you.
P.S. Desiree, you said that it seems there are now more people on your blog who don't know anything about you. I think you are right. I checked on the circulation of "Los Angeles" magazine and it's around 150,000. Pretty likely a lot of people got the address of your website from the article about you--there are bound to be a few jerks among them! Still, I know it hurts and hope they are not writing any more mean things about you.
Richard
Desiree, First let me apologize for being one of those who sent you repeated msgs without realizing it. That wasn't intentional.
This is your blog. You have to do what you feel is best for it. I'm sure most all of us here, especially the regular folks, don't want the negative vibes either, especially since you certainly haven't done anything to deserve them.
To Alan, if I can give an opinion too, I've had a David Clark for years and love it. Pay more for it than some other brands but it's worked flawlessly. Never used a Bose so can't speak to that one.

Richard,
I live in the Agoura Hills area and yesterday I saw a chopper towards the Hidden Hills area going around a small white object. At first, I wondered if they tossed it out and were practicing their camera work, but possibly someone launched an Estes rocket with a parachute.
Anyway, not sure it was what you were talking about, but they were definitely making circles around the white object (that appeared to descend very slowly).

Desiree - was that you? I heard about an incident at the local shooting range. They have had afew unfortunate events in the past.
you have been missed!
i have been enjoying your blog since being turned onto it by a personal friend's blog, innocent bystander, months ago.
fly safe!
Paul,
I didn't get a chance to hear but a few seconds of the news report about the parachute and didn't learn much. I was able to find the video again on the KNBC 4 website, but it won't work on my computer. Here is the address:

Maybe it will work for you.
Richard
I failed to include the pretty picture of Desiree that was included with the article about her in the North Valley Community News.

Hi Desiree,
I enjoy stopping by and viewing your photos and reading about your experiences as a Chopper Chick! Kudos to you for having the guts and a desire to share your adventures with all those who are interested. Two fingers to those who have deemed it necessary to make negative comments, but hey you gotta take the good with the bad and the bad are probably just real jealous they cant replicate your lifestyle. Your blog (in part) has inspired me to fulfill a very long goal to become a Helicopter pilot. So for that I thank you.
Keep posting lots of photos of your journey and adventures please!!!
Mick
let me just apologize to everyone for being slow getting back to everyone. we are in sweeps and i'm flying the mornings right now. whew, i don't miss the mornings. those hours are just not something one gets used to. i'm wiped after my shift. but the day goes by fast and we fly the whole time which is fun.
mwhkelly, thank you so much! you and so many others are the reason i continue to keep sharing my adventures with everyone. some adventures i can't share unfortunately. i wish i could, but some of the things we do up there might be frowned upon. thanks for your positive input.
paul, soon, i will get the snow adventures up. some of it i can't share, but let's just say it was pretty amazing. some of the most fun i've had flying in a long time.
amanda, thanks so much! :)
alan, wow, congrats to your son. that's great at 18. bose is great, but pricey. david clarks are affordable and very reliable. they have a lifetime warranty. if he's flying with the doors off which most likely he is, the bose do not work well with open windows or doors off. they need a sealed cabin in order for the noise cancelling to work. another great headset it lightspeed. i have the 30g 3's which are older. there are better ones now, but anyway, the lightspeeds are noise cancelling and work great with the doors off and have a jack to plug in you ipod or cell phone while flying which is great. i use them to listen to music with when i fly. not the prettiest headset as they are big and not as comfy as david clarks or bose. bose by far is the best noise cancelling in a closed cabin though. hope that helps.
richard, wow, stu and i had no idea they showed that until i read your post. lol. that was us videoing that. thank you, i love sharing my adventures and answer questions if i can. thanks! :) so far no one has written anything bad since i have to approve the comments. does it give you the option to delete or not post what you guys write? just curious because that person doesn't write now. no worries, have to take the bad with the good right?
trevor, no worries. yeah, i hate to have to approve comments sinced it makes you guys have to wait for it to post. so far i have not had any problems with what anyone has said. everyone is being so great. it was just one or two people that wrote in several weeks ago. it's in the past and i'm over it now. i look at everything as something to learn from.
paul, funny you saw us out there chasing that little parachute guy. lol. unfortunate about the shooting range incident. every day we see or fly over some terrible incident. today a fatal car crash on the 710 fwy. normally fatal accidents do not affect me as we had one friday, but todays for some reason really made me sad. i couln't stop thinking about the two women in the car and how one survived and the other was killed, how awful for the lady who was pulled from the car to have to deal with the loss of her friend or relative in that horrible accident. always a sad sight to see them cover up a body. i always worry that it's someone i may know in a strange way.
elessa, thanks so much! glad you enjoy my blog.
richard, thanks for posting that!
anonymous(mick), wow, thanks so much! where are you taking your lessons? flying helicopters is the most amazing kind of flight. your not just popping up high in the sky going from point a to b. you get to fly low and land almost anywhere at times. you truly feel like a bird. glad you are fulfilling your dream too!
Sorry about the anon, couldnt get 'the blog' to make me an account. I am training in the land Down Under - Australia! So you have a new fan down here.
I've got a long way to go as I have really just started my training. My home has scattered throughout, Helicopter theory notes, books etc. The more I read, the more I am getting hooked on the Heli-bug-itis! I am sort of juggling a full-time job with part-time training at the moment. Ideally I would like to train full-time, but....
Once my accumulated flying hours permit, I too would like to get involved in Fire Fighting activities over here, as we also have wildfires. But, more often than not they are deliberately lit :o(
Anyway, maybe sometime in the future I can share a pilot story with you for a change.
Hi Desiree & Paul:
I sent a message similar to this before Desiree last approved messages, but somehow it didn't make it through. Anyway, I again found the "Parachute Video" on the NBC4.TV website:
http://video.nbc4.tv/player/?id=95023
It won't work on my computer, but apparently does for some people.
Desiree, tell Stu that of the people who have rated it, the average score is 4 1/2 stars out of a possible 5. That's an A!
Richard,
I could not get the video to work either. The NBC site says 'video not found'.
I was wondering how the parachutte got up there in the first place.
Reminds me of my childhood - my brothers and I terrorized the Los Feliz hills racing our go-karts through the streets heading up to the observatory - no way a police car (Matador) could even begin to keep up with two 5hp Briggs engines on the back of our kart.
But we also made rockets that went up a begillion feet and came down like scud missles.
Amazing we have all of our fingers and toes.
Take care.
