Anyone want a Beach 18?????
Karl Florine, famous for owning Scooter who appears in my blog regularly is looking for a partner to own his plane with him, or looking to sell it. If anyone knows of anyone or can spread the word it would be greatly appreciated. Here's a link to his website.

Great to finally meet you on Sunday and thanks for taking the time to talk with Chris & me. I am having some probs uplaoding the pics of Dave's ranch, so I'll be mailing them over to you at Coastal along with some info on the helo you saw @FUL a couple weeks back - a very interesting story that seems to never die. It's not quite as pretty with the blunt nose, but, I'm told, flies with much more stability. Had to walk by the friggin thing all the time when I was working on my instrument rating last year down there. If you get down there again, take a look at the weights that were installed on the stinger (some serious W&B)
BTW, someone already nabbed the license plate, but there might be another to consider.
Safe flying & biking
Desiree & Laguna,
If Coastal now has an overabundance of cat toys, maybe Desiree can take one to my boy Jasper when she passes through Lone Pine next month.
I like Jasper. In his pictures he looks like I feel when I haven't had enough sleep the night before--it's just too much effort to open your eyes all the way.
Beach 18. You've been a SoCalGal too long. Get yourself to the Beech in Kansas. :)
Great site. Great pix.
Pat
Nice set of wings Karl. I'll spread the word around the set about the Beech.
The sky turned silver at 3 this morning. Stood on the sandstone rocks above the set as a cloud pushed through. You could have been on the Hillary Step! With the fake snow and rocks you felt like you were in the "Dead Zone" on Everest!! Moments in time that you cant grab except with your eye. Yes, this was the last night. Redford got what he wanted. A methodical thinker and a quiet man. Interesting.
Would have been great to have you and Stu step in and share it. There will be other times.
Richard! Sunday sounds great for Joe Jost's but are they open? I'll find out & let me know if that works for you.
Have a great weekend Desiree!!!!!
I'll have a glass of wine now while others have their cereal w/soy.
arotrhd, nice to meet you as well. thanks for the tip on the lic plate. i think i'm going to lay low under the radar for now on that one though. lol.
richard, jasper does look tired. lol. i want to hit mammoth one more time before all the snow melts, but i've been working extra lately so my paychecks are bigger. lol. give me an address to mail you a copy of that chatsworth monthly article. i completely forgot that i have a stack of those at home.
e6b, thanks! love socal.
laguna, i was hoping to make some time to come out tonight to the set after our shift, but i have to be at training early tomorrow morning over at vny for astar ground school. i'll keep you posted. next week is pretty hectic as well. early morning appointments all week. flew over your set a couple of nights ago coming back from a story. looks cool.
Laguna,
Sunday is Easter and I'm going to spend it with my mom. She has chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)and is pretty ill, but is doing a bit better. Look forward to going to Joe Jost's at another time.
Have a great Easter!
Richard
Desiree,
Thanks in advance for sending me the article about you in the "Chatsworth Monthly." My address:
Richard Gutmann
602 W. 37th Street
Long Beach, CA 90806-1117
Maybe sometime you will post a picture of your "I love me wall." I love your sense of humor.
Have a Happy Easter!
Richard
Desiree,
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all of our comments. And for the great adventures and pictures.
Have a great Easter!!
Stay safe.
-Paul
Happy Easter Desiree!
Thank you for your caring nature and openness to all us Bloggers.
Richard, I got so caught up in work that I forgot it was Easter!
Joe Jost's on another day for sure!
richard, i will get that in the mail tomorrow, being wednesday! probably not going to post a pic of my office wall. lol. pretty embarrassing and in some ways kinda private. let's just say i've got some cool photos of fire dept birds, some old ships i used to fly, some of me flying, and the best photos are the ones of my dad and brother in the chopper with me. those are priceless. hope your easter was happy!
paul, thanks so much! i'm flattered that you say that! this blog wouldn't be here if it wasn't for everyone's interest. so i thank all of you! hope your easter was happy as well.
laguna, happy belated easter to you! got your vm. i was flying over that hiker rescue up near mt. wilson. thanks so much for your comment as well!
Hi Desiree,
I've been trying to post to your site since last week, but it wouldn't let me. Said I wasn't a "team member." Today is the first it will allow posts.
Thanks for sending me the copies of the Chatsworth paper. I will post the article about you as soon as I finish my taxes. :( Very nice article; I'm sure everyone will enjoy reading it, except maybe that "1" person.
Please don't allow him/her to influence your posting in any way. We love hearing about you and seeing your pictures--the more, the better. If "1" is so uninterested in hearing about Chopper Chick and her various adventures, wouldn't you think he/she would stop going to a website named "The Adventures of Chopper Chick!"?
Any word yet on when KNBC might turn on the camera inside the copter?
Richard
richard, thanks for your comments and your patience. i am having blogging issues as well with this site. better now. glad you got the paper. yeah, i had to assume the 1 person was jealous or had some issue with me since they are checking out my blog, reading it, and commenting on what they assume is negative. i can only learn from it. i looked over what they read and saw how easily it is to misunderstand what i actually do based on simple quick comments i make about my adventures. i now know that if i comment on something i may have to make it clear at times if there is any possibility of a misunderstanding.
not sure what's up with the camera in the chopper. it's in there! no word on when they plan to use it though. i leave for fire season at the end of may, so who knows if i will be on camera before i go. :)
also, like i said before, you and all of the other positive blog readers are the reason i continue to blog. this wouldn't be any fun if you guys weren't part of this. i appreciate the support and positive comments. thanks so much!!!
richard, p.s. i was wondering why i hadn't had any comments the past week. now i know why. thanks.
Desiree said: "i looked over what they read and saw how easily it is to misunderstand what i actually do based on simple quick comments i make about my adventures. i now know that if i comment on something i may have to make it clear at times if there is any possibility of a misunderstanding."
Desiree,
You are just too nice. Please don't sacrifice the infectious enthusiasm you have (and we love) when telling us about your adventures, in an attempt to avoid "any possibility of a misunderstanding."
Richard
I have a friends who is interested in becoming a helo pilot. Do you mind answering a few questions? I didn't see an email address. Thanks.
A couple of people on this blog really need to lighten up on Desiree. She's been nothing but nice to everyone. I wouldn't want to see her drink and ride her motorcycle and get hurt or hurt someone, either. But I think you are putting words into her mouth regarding this. As for blogger 1, what do you get out of being so mean to Desiree?
Below is a nice article about Desiree from the February 4-17, 2006 edition of the "North Valley Community News."
Fighting Fire
---------------
Chatsworth's Chopper Chick Left KTLA for a ‘Hotter' Job
By Amy Lyons
Chatsworth resident Desiree Horeton spent just under six months as the helicopter traffic pilot for KTLA and since departing the traffic beat last year, there are more than a few people who want to see her back in the Southern California skies. The self-proclaimed "Chopper Chick" grew up in Studio City, bought her first home in Chatsworth two years ago, and first hunkered down in the pilot's seat of a helicopter--her home away from home--at the age of 19. Today, she is following her real copter-related passion: fighting fires.
Horton's skyward yearnings first started when she was in high school. She worked two jobs upon graduation to pay for training and began her flying career giving tours of Los Angeles and surrounding areas. "I posted advertisements at ice cream shops to get clients," said Horton. She is grateful to have spent time flying with Scott Reiff, who allowed her to accumulate enough hours to fly solo. She trained at Bell Textron's Factory School in Forth Worth Texas, a school where pilots from companies such as SoCal Helicopters receive recurrent training and ensure the ongoing maintenance of safety standards.
Horton began her reporting career at KABC (Channel 7), where she flew for 3 years before moving to KTLA. Upon hearing that local airborne celebrity, Jennifer York was leaving her famous airborne post, Horton saw the opportunity to do traffic full time and went for it. "KTLA was a great experience," said Horton. "Had I not worked there, I probably wouldn't be talking to you right now," she continued, remarking that she didn't know she had a fan base until she left KTLA.
Blogger Gary Sassaman (http://innocentbystander.typepad.com/) is certainly one of Horton's fans, having this to say about the personable pilot in a November post to his blog: "Many of you have visited here over the past weeks due to my posts about Desiree Horton, the helicopter pilot/reporter who flew into our lives on KTLA. She made an impression on a lot of viewers, not just for her striking good looks, but her calm, even voice and contrasted reporting style (compared to her predecessors) of reporting. Horton's fans flooded Sassaman's blog soon after that post, echoing their sentiments about Horton's talent, many of them asking when she would return to traffic reporting. "Desiree, you were the ONLY reason I tuned into KTLA Channel 5 Morning News..., " read one of several posts.
But firefighting was always on Horton's mind, even when she had secure work on the reporting scene. As a Southern California native, she remembers seeing news footage of aerial firefighting at a very young age and in 1990, she worked with a school based in Pacoima that was in close proximity to a fire station, a constant reminder of her attraction to the profession. Finally, in 2004, Horton began making her dream a reality. "I completed my firefighting training in 2004 and when I went out on my first fire, I really felt like it was what I wanted to be doing," said Horton, giving huge accolades to the "guys on the ground," who are dropped off near blazes by copter pilots with the job of digging a line around the fire in attempts to contain it. "They are such heroes," said Horton.
Though she is grateful for the short stint at KTLA, Horton saw it as a bit of a sidetrack from her firefighting goals. "It was physically demanding work. I would get up at 3:00 am and work until 3:00 pm," she said. Though KTLA viewers would see and hear small snippets of Horton in her short morning traffic segments, she was flying the copter all day. While working for the station, she was trying to come up with a way to fight fires part-time, a plan that she knew would be almost impossible to realize. When KTLA did not renew her contract, she was free to focus her time and energy on firefighting. Those wondering if she will be back on the local traffic scene may be glad to know that Horton is one who does not rule out future opportunities. "If there is any way that I could report traffic in the winter, that would be ideal," said Horton, who recognizes that having a dual career in firefighting and traffic reporting would be a difficult stretch.
For now, Commander Chuck Street, who does traffic reports for KIIS FM from 6 to 9 a.m., has been chosen to chime in on KTLA traffic reports from 7:00 am - 9:00 am. Horton is an admirer of Street's work.
Horton sees both traffic reporting and firefighting as service-oriented pursuits, but firefighting has a stronger tug on her heart. "I remember reporting over the Topanga fire and many of my friends were down there, fighting the fire. I was going crazy...with firefighting, you are saving property and you can feel the adrenaline rush. It's nice to help people get around accidents or find the best route to work, but I just can't get that same adrenaline rush from reporting," said Horton. When you drop the water, you know you have done your job immediately. It wasn't until I left KTLA and got fan mail that I knew I had been connecting with people."
Horton is currently in Texas, where the fire season is in full force. Her own blog http://www.copterchick.blogspot.com/ invites visitors to read all about "The adventures of Chopper Chick!" She would like to spend time at her Chatsworth home sometime in the near future, but she will follow the fires wherever they take her.
Desiree,
As Richard said, don't change your style. We all love and appreciate you and your adventures.
While I have never had the opportunity to fly in a chopper, your blog puts something in my life that I can't do myself. I am sure others will agree that we fly with you.
Keep up the great updates and stay safe.
Richard, thanks so much for posting the article. I tried to find it a while back on the internet with no luck.
Desiree,
I went back to read what "1" said about you and I couldn't believe it. How could anyone say such negative things. Richard is right about you being too nice, but you have a kind heart so I guess it's the only way you can be. I didn't think what you wrote sounded anything like what this person accused you of saying. It just seems to me that they are insecure and unhappy with their life. Misery loves company, you know. You ARE NOT self-centered. I appreciate that you take the time to share your life, adventures and pictures of yourself. I love coming here and reading about you. And it's always great to see you smiling back at us. I'm really happy to be part of your blog.
Sharon
Desiree,
You can see from the blogs that your are admired and loved by virtually all of us (don't worry about '1').
Please don't change your style for anyone!! You put something into our lives that we can't do ourselves - we all fly with you on your adventures.

Desiree,
I thought there was a problem in posting the blog, so I repeated myself about 100 times - I apologize.
Please delete all of the extra posts.

I totally agree with Kathryn and Richard. Some people need to calm down and have some dip. I think we all know that Desiree is an extremely conscientious, intelligent woman who would never do anything that would endanger herself or others. So to blogger 1, chill out. Desiree, don't start being careful about what you say because some might misunderstand. Just be yourself. I know that's what I sure enjoy about reading your blogs.
Ok while I got ya on the pipe here, what's the chance of getting my copy of LA Mag signed?? :-) Had to ask .......
Trevor

Just drove back from Grants Pass, Oregon today and thought I'd chill on your site before I called it a day. Wow, Sounds like the Spanish Inquisition from some of those folks out there Dez!
Do not suffer fools my dear. Your perfect as you are.
Yeah my name and blog got screwed up like everyone else's.
I'm not Laguna anymore. I had to start the Blog thing all over again.
I'm camerapilot now, I think? I'll try sending this. Hope you get it!!
:)
Great area Grants Pass, lot's of long lining on timber.
Have a super weekend you controversial thing you!!!:)!
Desiree!
Laguna here. Still testing and now I noticed atop the screen here the "comment has been saved..." sentence.Ooops!!:)
Hope the bugs have been cleaned out of this site.
Bless you sweetie. There are a lot of people who want you to stay just the way you are.
Don't let others put you on trial.
Are you familiar with Carson Helicopters in Oregon. Interesting site.
Desiree,
I am definitely not computer literate, but I don't feel so bad seeing that others had some problems blogging. Anyway, rest assured we all appreciate you the way you are.
Looking forward to your next stories and pictures.
And thanks to Laguna and others for limiting my embarrasment trying to blog and not paying attention to the message at the top of the screen.
Stay safe.
Desiree,
Walking the streets of Grants Pass and enjoying the rain & my coffee from the Dutch Coffee Co. I heard a helo, looked up and saw a Sikorsky S-61 from Carson Helicopters above the tree line. Thought about you and your recent info on Long Line.
Carson Helicopters has a nice website!

"Carson Helicopters" has a nice website.
Paul,
Illiterate is my middle name! I'm a surfer from Laguna, my dad is a redneck pilot and I'm in the film biz, that's three strikes right there!
I'm still struggling with this site. If it were not for Desiree I'd hang it up.
I'm gonna try the Anonymous setting because things have changed since my last blog.
Paul!
There is a reason why I don't build rockets!
You are not alone, but I am the computer illiterate poster child and I chalk it up to my roots...surfer from Laguna, redneck pilot father and in the film biz. That's three strikes.
Laguna (aka camerapilot and anonmyous), don't feel bad - my father is a retired neurosurgeon - obviously any 'brain' genes must have skipped a generation - I didn't get his!! Or maybe he practiced on me when I was young(and had a few oopsees).
Anyway, like yourself, I really like Desiree's blog and will stick with it. Actually, you and Desiree could start your own talk show!!
Desiree, we all understand the need for you to approve the comments - there will always be a few negative nuts out there.
Stay safe.
Evening Desiree,
This is a test. I'm sorry for Clogging instead of Blogging. Great typing practice though!
Desiree,
Paul suggested we have a talk show...
I can see how it would shake down after the first week. I'd start whining to my agent.
"Her trailer is bigger!" And then it would be your turn."He has Michael Jackson's chimp, Bubbles to hang out with in between scene setups & all I get is a metro-sexual assistant who screams every time I send him to Trader Joe's for more Mochi flavored ice cream!!**&(!!"
Sorry for all the multiple comm's.
and it sucks that you have to add "Editor" to your resume regarding the screening process that is required. It's not like you have a lot of free time.
Got back into town this afternoon from Laguna just in time to catch your hover pos. over Agoura Hills Shooting Range. I have shot scenes at that location before as well as firearms. Very well run and clean place. Far away enough so a lot of people don't go there and unfortunately todays tragedy is not the first time this has happened at that location.
And by the way "my trailer has to be matte black!"
richard, hope your mom is doing better. glad you got the aricle. thanks for posting it! i will still continue to post my adventures. i just have to be careful about certain things i post. thanks!
anonymous, sure ask away? sorry it took me so long to get back to you. hope you check back in.
kathryn kinstle, you are so sweet. thanks. i am very responsible with all my actions. i don't want to jepordize my career or my life. thanks!
richard, thanks! cool! lol.
paul, i won't change my style, but i do have to watch what i say at times. thanks for your support. thanks, i didn't realize how my blog does that for you. that really makes me feel good. it's funny, it's not like i'm out there saving lives or making a difference, so i'm really honored that you feel that way just from reading my adventures. thanks!
spygirl, thanks for the positive support and comments. you guys are too nice! thanks so much! thanks for being a part of my blog! :) i'm happy your part of it.
paul, thanks to you as well for the positive support and comments. :) i think that's really cool that you feel like your on my missions with me. glad you guys really enjoy hearing this stuff. opps, sorry i published all those. it's okay, we'll figure out this blog soon. lol.
trevor, thanks for the comments and support. i'll sign your mag!! come by whiteman and visit me at coastal. call the office there first to make sure we are on the ground. i've got one more morning shift, then i go back to nights on wednesday.
camerapilot, lol. your right. sorry for the issues with the blog now. i have to read and publish everyones comments now. thanks for being patient and supportive. i am familiar with carson. great company. have some friends that work for them.
paul, thanks! i'll get some more adventures up soon. just wanted to get back to everyone finally. it's been busy the past couple of weeks. i have checkrides coming up and lots of studying and getting things in order around my house and in my life before heading out for fire season. once i'm on the fires i should have time in the evenings to get back to everyone when i'm sitting there in my hotel. hopefully i'll have internet often. lol. can't wait to get some cool pics on fires and get those posted.
camerapilot, yep, carson is definetly cool. great company.
anonymous, glad your sticking it out cuz of me. sorry for all the recent issues with posting. i do appreciate your patience and support. thanks.
camerapilot, lol. me too. took me a while to figure out this blog as well.
paul, thanks so much. your right, there will always be a few negative ones out there.
camerapilot, no worries. lol. speaking of trailers, getting mine ready. been flying so much haven't had a chance to go in and clean it and make sure i've got everything i need in there. it sits behind our hangar now. we are going to get it up there before the contract and get it ready. my home away from home. i don't mind having to approve comments. it takes just a second. they get emailed to me and i just click publish and it happens instantly so it's kinda cool to read everyones comments through email now instead of checking my blog often. matte black, must get hot. would be cool looking though. mines white. lol.
