Sweeps month

L.A. on the day of rain last week.

Me and Stu at Long Beach Airport after a story. The really exspensive salt water tank at Airflite in Long Beach. I love the puffer fish. He's cool.

Our main ship, TV4. This week it has a cineflex HD camera system on it. I'll try to get photos of it with that one up. Oh, I'm sounding like those comedians, the new chopper 4 with................seeeaaatttsss.

Flying around in the lovely L.A. smog last week!

Two weekends ago in Mammoth, with my horrible cold. Still super fun though! Stacy Sheard and Ross Gould.

Another photo of our newly painted B3 for firefighting. Looks incredible on a sunny day. Not the best in the overcast. Must be winter or something. lol.

We have been in sweeps for over a week or so. I'm losing track of time and space. I've been so busy with flying so much and so many other things in life. It's been great. Can't complain. Took my mom to Vegas for a show over the weekend. I'm hoping to lay low this weekend and not go out of town since another mammoth trip is on the horizon. Strange but typical l.a. weather we have had lately. Last week I was freezing when flying the night shift, turning the heater on in the helicopter at night, and now this week, using the air conditioning...at night! It has been strangely hot in the evenings while flying. Now it's cold again, tonight. My shift has been cut back during sweeps. You will only hear me reporting for the 11pm show on NBC during sweeps. Earlier today having this short shift(althought we do still fly a bunch)allowed me to go on a little flight to San Diego to fly some power engineers around the mountains to look at proposed powerline projects. It was a good flight. Wow, the homes and properties we flew over. We were all drooling and very jealous. Beautiful down there, and once again, only to be seen by helicopter. So many great tropical pools with palm tree islands in the middle. One pool did stand out, it was under construction and had 4 concrete lounge chairs built into the pool with cup holders. The lounges were under water, just enough for your upper torso and head to stick out a bit. Pretty cool. Lots of horse property, citrus and avacado orchirds. Pretty fun flying.

Airflite has really changed! I was there a while back to visit the old gang. Greg, Bora & Peggy Z.

Has it really been that long since I fell on my ass in front of you in the Airflite gift shop? WOW.

What show did you see in Vegas? One of the 80 Cirgue shows?

Desiree, There's startlingly little snow there in the pic at Mammoth. Hope they get a lot more in the next few weeks or it's going to be a really short season this year.

hey guys!!!!! sorry, tax season and other typical things that keep life busy, like managing my debt. lol.

marvin, i like our all white newschopper, doesn't have a big nbc logo trying to look like all the other news birds. looks clean and simple.

jeff r, omg, lol. it's been that long!!!! airflite is as always a beautiful fbo. i like going there when i land at lgb. i have my favs at all the airports. um, took mom to see O at the bellagio. she loved it. who wouldn't right? those cirque shows always inspire me to get in better shape. the performers i think have the most incredible bodies of anyone on this planet and their strenght and agility. wow!

Desiree,

What's happened to you?!! You're already working on your taxes? Last year, about two months after the deadline, you wrote that you were "Still working on putting that off." That became one of my favorite lines.

Desiree - Just discovered your blog, very cool. I have an aviation blog as well, and if you want, I'll post a link back to yours if you'll post mine...helps us both search.

Not much time for simple pleasures during the tail end of wrapping up a shoot.Everyone on the crew has that 1000 yard stare and you question yourself and ask "do I look as tired as they do?" Well yeah!!!
Had a simple pleasure by clicking on that first frame you posted, the one of the downtown city scape. That's a great photo Dez. I missed it the first couple of times and then while looking at it through a blurry eye tonight I caught the composition and the light. I even saw my favorite eatery, Philippe's on Alameda, which reminds me that I have to get down there and buy some more of that hot mustard!!
Good pic Dez, really good!

Hi Laguna,

Glad you called attention to what a great picture that is of downtown LA. I, too, had kind of passed over it when I first looked. A view like that of familiar things but from such a different (and great) perspective makes it easy to understand why Desiree loves flying helicopters so much.

Philippes is also my mom's favorite place to eat. I used to take her there every month, but she hasn't been very well the past year and doesn't feel like riding the 25 miles from Long Beach.

I love that mustard. I start out with just a little on my beef sandwich, but it tastes so good I keep adding more until it ends up burning the inside of my nose and really hurting. Maybe I'll learn my limit someday. We also enjoy seeing the train display they have in the room at the back of the restaurant. Hope it is still there.

Richard, if it isn't burning, your not adding enough mustard!
My Grandmother who is almost a 100 started going to Philippe's when she was just a girl. She and her mother worked for a Senator Flint who had a Ranch that would later become Flintridge. She would hop a ride downtown, see a vaudeville show somewhere on Broadway and then grab a bite at Philippe's. I would do the same thing many years later. I'd steal my moms 57 Thunderbird and blast out of Laguna Beach on an early school morning and take in a museum, walk along Broadway, look at the architecture, cruise through Central Market and then jump over to Philippe's. Yeah I'd catch hell and I'm still not hearing the end of it. But it was worth it.
And Richard, yes, the trains are still there.

I'm freezing,my fingers are burning. Production has given me a golf cart. They must think that I am an adult. They must think that I will drive safely.....
The scratched, yellowed windscreen is too far away to keep the wind out as
the cart blasts between the concrete stages.
"This is the fastest cart on the lot" says the man who delivers the cart. I don't know why he tells me this but I take it as a sign. The key is in the ignition and I'm feeling like Thaddeus Toad when he lays eyes on a car for the very first time. I know I must be professional, people with a lot of money have hired me for some reason and I should act accordingly, I should......I wonder how fast this puppy can go?
Dez, everything was going fine until I saw that exhaust stain and N4TV on the tail of a white A-Star
slice across the top of stage 24. "Is that Dez?" I thought. "No, she's doing the zombie night thing and it's not even 9am yet and....."
To make a long story short, I was looking at your ride in the sky and not at the actress that was about to be road kill caused by my hungry golf cart wheel well. Yes, I was able to stop and she was able to continue on with her film career with all limps intact and I made it back to the stage without having to contact my attorney.
And as I got out of the Little Golf Cart from Hell my eyes and ears were pulled upward to see Stacey's 430 streak by and a few minutes later the new "Flying Sweet Potato"/ ENG KTLA Chopper.
I can't believe I get paid for doing what I do or should I say "for what I don't do!?!"
Have a great weekend and think "SNOW!!!"

2/28 Wednesday. Had to do a photo shoot down on Hollywood Blvd. today and made it back to my digs just in time to see the sunset. Did you catch an eye full from your chopper view? That sunset was better than anything that I shot today.
You have to sit on your hands and be humble when you see a sky like that.
I'm driving a plane tomorrow and I can't wait for the wind to tell me to lay off and let the plane do it's thing. Nothing can touch you up there can it?
The movie that was supposed to wrap started up again! It's becoming a Vampire! Driving a stake into it's
heart would be like killing the Goose that lays the golden eggs, so I'll sit back and be grateful!
Be all eyes up there Baby Sister and mind the little stuff.

Hi Desiree,

Hope all is going well with you and your 1099 forms.

I was looking at a website called "Where Are They Now" which tells where current and former Los Angeles radio personalities are now. It's at: www.laradio.com.

Just wondered if you knew how Chuck Street supposedly got his job at KIIS? Below is the entry for him. Please don't get any ideas!!

Street, Commander Chuck: KIIS, 1983-2007. Chuck has been the pilot for KIIS Yellow Thunder traffic helicopter for over 15 years. He got his job by flying his helicopter past the 11th floor Hollywood studios while Rick Dees was on the air. Sitting next to Chuck was a female companion - a topless female companion. His reports also air on the KTLA/Channel 5 Morning News. Chuck Street

There is also an interesting article on Loyd Sigmon who started the SigAlert.
