Happy New Year Everyone
Going to San Diego for New Years with a couple of other chopper chicks. Have more to blog about next week and some other attachments to follow.
But really quick, haven't had time to respond lately, busy flying news all week, lots of pursuits and fires, etc.
Richard mentioned I was mentioned in the December isssue of Wildland Firefighter Magazine. True, paragraph nineteen, the one just above the huey.

They will be doing an article on me thanks to the mention from this firefighter in here that I flew with on the Day Fire. Not sure when it will come out.
Also, Los Angeles Magazine contacted me for an interview as well. Should be coming out sometime possibly in April. Keep you posted.
Have a great new year!!!!!

Enjoyed the video of you guys in the helicopter flying above the dirtriders. Looks like a lot of fun. But what's with your friend? Her web page makes her out to be a total slut.
dirtrider, thanks about the video! was loads of fun as you can tell from us laughing. i'm confused about the comment about my friend though. i don't see what you mean when i look at her page. she's a pilot and her page portrays that only. no photos of her naked like every other girl on myspace.
Happy New Year Desiree...
I just saw your report on Ch. 4 news about a float causing problem on 134. KNBC seems like a much better fit than KTLA...
It was very cool to see you in One-Six Right as well. :-)
Blue Skies~!
dirtrider,
Hmmm were you one of the riders on the dirt bike that could see those slutty girls from a 100 feet up or are you just wishing because, I can't see what you are talking about. AHHH Men and their infintile fantasies! Or maybe you need better glasses?
Glasses=little member .... GET IT
Wait are you her X boyfriend or do women pilots offend you delicate sensibilities?
Maybe your new name shoud be DIRTBAG
Ms. H.
I've been checking your blog for a while. What a life! Is there anything you want to do that you haven't done yet? You and your friends look like you have a lot of fun.
I've been working on my fixed-wing private on and off for a while, but can't seem to get it done. My first love is helicopters, flew an R22 for the first time when I was 12. Anyway, just wanted to say hey, and happy new year.
PS Saw 16R on New Years. It was great. Thanks for mentioning it.
PSS Do you know a guy named Aldo that used to fly news out of Van Nuys?
RE: please try not to say bad things about my friends on my blog.
I promise I won't. Please accept my apology to you and your friend. I must have somehow been on the wrong web page.
What a classy way to deal with what I said. You are as nice as you appear to be on TV.
Hi, Desiree.
Probably old news to you, but KTLA just got a new ride, a Eurocopter AS 350 BA, N417HA, with all the latest digital hi-definition stuff.
I was thinking about you only because I (we, actually) really do miss you at Channel 5, even though you are in a much better situation now. Can you believe they are going to give that helicopter some squirrelly name? One suggestion (by your replacement) was “Pumpkin” because it is a kind of orange color. The morning traffic was so much nicer with your down-to-earth reporting style!
Happy New Year!
Jerry

Hi Desiree,
While watching your reports tonight at 5 & 6 p.m., I was wondering if you ever record your own reporting and watch/listen to it later? I ask because tonight's two reports and the one I saw two nights ago were absolutely flawless. You never even hesitated between any of the words like reporters often do. But I remember a short time ago you told Jerry (who posted just above) that you don't do that good a job reporting. :(
This reminds me of my trying to teach my nephew some things when he was playing organized basketball. He was very good, but it was so hard to convince him that he was. Lots of people would tell him he was good, and he had great stats, still sometimes he would come off the court after a game and be all upset about his play when he had actually played very well.
On some occasions I would tape his games, but he didn't want to watch. Eventually, though, he would look at the tapes and say something like, "Hey, I played really well." Of course that confidence didn't always last through the next game, but eventually he did get become a lot more confident.
Richard
Desiree,
I don't understand this! How could Nick Lachey still be interested in her after he flew with you in Phoenix?
(Okay, I know, I spend too much time on the Internet.)
Hi Desiree,
I wrote to another magazine suggesting they do an article about Desiree Horton, and they want some more information about you. Would you please email me at rwgutmann@yahoo.com so I can forward their email to you?
Richard
av8ors, yeah, that was funny. i really wanted to joke about it but knbc isn't too much on the funny side of news so i tried to keep it serious. it was quite the sight to see from the air. thanks about 16R. that was fun.
rockdog, thanks for coming to my friends defense, but as you can see, apologies came, but thank you for your concern. i would really appreciate everyone commenting on this blog to be nice and keep it clean. so far no problems until recently. thanks. :)
jlo, thanks! there is actually alot of stuff that i haven't done and i'm wanting to do badly but just don't have the time. i love my job so i work all the time and never turn down work or take time off. i need to though. my friends and i have a blast everywhere we go and especially on our flights. it's awsome to have girlfriends that fly helicopters too. i think i know why you can't get your license. you must be bored in airplanes. you need to just jump back into that R22 and get it done. stick with it. i did and look where i am now. it took me two years just to get my private. don't let anyone or anything discourage you. took me that long because of the money. it is pricey. happy new year to you too and thanks about 16R. just today after the crash at VNY i thought....oh no... here the residents go again trying to stop flights out of vny. anyway, yes, i know aldo, i've known him for years. he still flies, but now out of angel city air here at whiteman airport. aldo is doing great. he has overcome alot recently. he battled cancer and at times it was scary for us to think about how quickly any illness can take away our wings.
dirtrider, you rock! thanks and no problem. :)
jerry, yes they did and i took photos of it next to me today over the griffith park brush fire. mr. johnny mccool the pilot reporter was flying. he's in stuff magazine this month. they featured him. pretty cool. was kinda funny, as i was taking johnny's photo, colin the FOX pilot joked and said he should get a pic of johnny and i in the two D models. the new sky 5 is the same as one of the ships i fly for ch. 4(the red and white one) Thanks for missing me. sometimes i miss it too. there are things i miss and don't miss about it. i'm having a great time with knbc though. they are so nice and wonderful to work with. Stu and i have so much fun flying together. we figured out how to finally swap the scanner cable into our ipods the other day and listen to music up there now. so much fun. yeah, not a big fan of the orange color on the new sky5 though. it's kinda like cal trans orange.
richard gutmann, i used to listen to my reports back in the ABC days. oh it was painful. hate to hear my own voice. but that is when i saw the little things i needed to improve on and get better at. it was helpful. no one is perfect at reporting. there are things i leave out or don't say right and i always kick myself after my report if i forget something or say it wrong. sometimes i'm at a loss for words and just don't know what to say. it's kinda funny. i could put a little more energy into some of my reports too. but as long as you guys love it and think i'm doing good, that's great. i will still always be a critic. as far as nick lachey goes, well, he's got a great new girlfriend now. not sure if the actor type is my type anyway. i'm going to end up with another pilot or firefighter probably, someone in the business who will understand my hetic schedule and life. who knows! too busy now though. by the way, what magazine? i will get back to you soon. thanks for thinking of me!
Desiree,
The magazine is "People." Their West Coast Bureau Chief, Bryan Alexander, wrote me three emails about you in two days. You never know, but I think he really is interested in writing an article about you. Or maybe he is just interested in you, period! Anyway, his email address is Bryan_Alexander@peoplemag.com.
Richard
Sorry, I gave that guy a promotion. He is actually the West Coast Deputy Bureau Chief.
Hey Dez, Photo L.A. will be at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, Jan. 19-21. If you want to see the "real deal" in art photography it's all happening there.
Richard, thanks! I will email him. That would be really cool to be in people if that is the case!
Laguna, thanks! Not sure if I will have the time but it sounds great! Just landed from flying over the golden globe arrivals. Took the scenic route home up the coast and through the santa monica mountains. I felt like a participant on a rose parade float. As we flew up the trails through the mountains, hikers would wave and we would wave back. It was fun and funny!
Ms. H.,
I don't think boredom with the fixed-wing is why I haven't finished my private, but thanks for your unbiased opinion. Part is procrastination and part is the expense. Talk about expensive, have you seen the hourly for a helicopter vs. airplane? Of course you haven't, you get paid to fly. What a life, have I said that before?
After watching 16R I realized how great VNY is. I've only flown in there once in my friend's 310. His dad owns MC Aviation pretty close to or right next to Helinet. Anyway, there is way too much history and need there to make any drastic changes to the operations (I hope). That was really a tragedy about the citation pilots. From what I read, it sounded like they were great guys that gave a lot back to aviation.
I haven't seen Aldo in years. He used to play drums for a jazz group I was in, in High School. I think he was in college at the time. Anyway, I'm glad to hear he's doing alright. I don't give much thought to how much your health enables or disables your ability to be allowed to do your job. I had a friend that flew for FedEx and had to take a desk job for 4 years because of a back problem. He finally got to get back in the plane a little over a year before his mandatory retirement.
I'm not sure Aldo would remember me but if you see him and think about it, say "hi" from Jesse Irwin (Long Beach).
Keep up the great adventures. I'm being throughly entertained.
Cheers
